Grant Moorhead | Taranaki's Grant Moorhead has held on to win the $22,500 Wharahine Group of Companies Pro-Am, which concluded at Omaha Beach Golf Club today. It took a seven metre putt on the last hole to hold out Tim Wilkinson and complete a one-under par round of 69 and add to his first round of five-under 65. Wilkinson went blemish-free in his round of four-under 66 adding to his first round of 69 and finishing one shot in arrears.
Third place went to rookie and trainee-professional Matthew Gray from Auckland who added a 66 to his first round of 71. Josh Carmichael was steady if not spectacular in putting together a par round of 70 to go with his first round of 68 to claim fourth place outright. Mathew Holten was playing well until he took a quadruple 9 on the fourteenth hole which contributed to him slipping back into 5th equal placing. Douglas White also found the going difficult in trying to add to his first round 66, shooting three over par to also share 5th place.
This concludes a great tournament, popular with the professionals and special in the way that the local people create such a hospitable atmosphere, with many of the professionals being billeted by the locals, developing relationships that will continue into the next event and beyond.
